Huab Lodge

Huab Lodge stands beside the Huab River in the heart of Damaraland, some 35km west of the C35 road between Khorixas and Kamanjab. After discovering Huab, Jan and Suzi van de Reep settled here to begin their 'semi-retirement' in 1992. By gradually restoring 8,000 hectares of badly damaged land and encouraging the well-being of the few remaining animals, they soon found themselves once again in full-time work, this time as custodians of this land and all living on it.

At Huab today, the amazing results of this hard labour are evident everywhere you turn. Not only are there healthy wild animals free to roam throughout the reserve, and beyond, without fences to hinder them, we humans can also enjoy a little pampering, luxurious surroundings and the benefits of an eco-friendly existence within the recently built Lodge and its bungalows.

All the associated facilities and activities that have been built up around the success of the couple's endeavours make for a truly memorable holiday experience accompanied by undiluted exposure to something approaching the natural state of the land in this very special place. "The place where kopjes grow like giant mushrooms and elephants tread like ants" Oria Douglas-Hamilton.

Now you are welcome at Huab - where you can discover relief from the stresses of everyday life and absorb the soul of the African bush. Soak up the relaxing ambience, delight in the attentive care, discover the wonders of the landscape and its myriad animal and plant life.

Directions
Namibia
DIRECTIONS: From Outjo you can cut off about 70kms by first heading 10km towards Okaukuejo on the C 38, then turn left for a further 40km on the tar towards Kamanjab on the C 40. Then turn left again onto the D 3236 towards Fransfontein. At the T-junction with the C 35 turn north toward Kamanjab for 15km and just after the single lane bridge at the Huab Lodge sign turn right onto the D 2670 going west ward. 35km later on a road that becomes more and more breathtaking as you continue you arrive at your comfortable and inviting lodge!
A four-wheel drive vehicle is not necessary, except maybe in the rainy season. The road, D 2670 halfway between Khorixas and Kamanjab is a well-maintained all-weather gravel road. If the rains are really heavy then even a 4-wheel drive vehicle will not help get you across roaring rivers! PLEASE do not attempt to cross these! If you are on your way to Huab Lodge and you have a booking, we are expecting you.
As we know the weather conditions and are in contact with our neighbours, we ensure that a rescue car comes to meet you if conditions are uncertain.
A saloon car can easily manage these gravel roads, obviously you need to drive carefully! The driving time from Khorixas as well as from Kamanjab is 1 hour 30 minutes, at a safe speed but without stopping to smell the flowers! The driving time from Outjo is 2 hours 30 minutes, from Swakopmund about 5 hours and from Windhoek about 6 hours.
